Light and sound
Calm rooms depend on how brightness fades and how noise from Geneva streets is softened. We specify lamps, dimmers, textiles, and simple acoustic layers — interior design only.
Lacustrine light rhythms
Winter mornings stay grey until ten; summer evenings stay luminous until nine. We programme layered lighting — ambient, task, and low floor wash — so one switch does not jump from cave to clinic.
Warm 2700K sources sit behind linen shades to avoid pinpoint glare on polished parquet common in Rhône quarter renovations.
District conditions
Eaux-Vives
Tram lines on Gustave-Ador and motor traffic toward Pont du Mont-Blanc add steady rumble. Heavy drapes plus a bookshelf mass layer reduce high-frequency intrusion without sealing windows.
Plainpalais
Courtyard-facing bedrooms get reflected sound from stone wells. Rugs spanning two-thirds of the floor and fabric wall panels behind the seat address flutter echo.
Champel
Leaf canopy filters light but creates moving shadows. Semi-sheer inner curtains stabilise brightness; exterior shutters remain operable for PPE compliance.
Fixture selection
We favour dimmable LED with high CRI for evening reading colour fidelity. Floor lamps with weighted bases survive draft from lake-facing French doors.
Electricians we work with in Geneva install trailing-edge dimmers compatible with specified bulbs; labour is quoted separately from our styling fee.
Standalone acoustic review
A focused light and sound pass for one room starts at CHF 680, including an annotated plan and shopping list. Full calm-room packages integrate this work at no extra line item.
